It's a little brighter in here

I have been working on refreshing the design of this blog over the past couple of days, and I am happy with it now. The new design better exposes my posts by making use of what was previously white space. Also the type is larger. Irrelevant content has been removed - especially from the right side. I hope you enjoy it, I'll be tweaking things here and there for a bit.

How safe is student data?

With reports of 60 million students' confidential data at US universities being inappropriately accessed by marketers, projects at ASU like this one concern me greatly. Having our health data accessible by people in the financial aid office is not something that's ever been necessary at a university. But at the same time I am happy with projects like the new combination of ASU Interactive, MyASU and the Student Center.

Cleaning out my closet

Today I am going to try to clean out my 210 bookmarks. They're well sorted but do I need 210 bookmarks? No.

I got a haircut yesterday

My new haircut

I have no idea how long it's been since my last. But it feels great to get rid of the mop that was on my head.

I too love doughnuts

I would also like to open my own shop one day, but by that time I'll have Top Pot.

Commuter Rail in Maricopa County's Future?

Recommended High Capacity Transit Network

The Maricopa Association of Governments released a draft of their strategic plan for a commuter rail line proposed to go through the hearts of the major communities in the valley. It calls for an aggressive schedule, with lines ready by 2010. This seems pretty easy since the rails are there for cargo. But it would require a lot of cooperation and I don't know if that'd be easy. It'd also require a large upgrade of the rail infrastructure and stations to be built.

All in all, I am excited to see where this goes because this idea's been thrown around before but never considered so seriously. I'd love it to be done when I come back for visits.

Download the draft at the MAG website.
